A healthy pregnancy for a healthy child’s heart
Project summary
Birth-related factors influence the disposition for later cardiovascular diseases. Using new imaging techniques we will investigate how these factors influence the development of the child’s heart, and whether a healthy pregnancy results in a healthier heart for posterity.
Impact
This study will greatly improve our understanding of how early-life insults affect later health. This will raise the potential for improving maternal and perinatal care by showing the long-term benefits for CVD risk, for identifying biomarkers for the surveillance of individuals exposed to early-life risk factors, and for new early primary prevention strategies to complement classical CVD management.
