Development of a sensitive blood test to predict rapid return of disease after surgery for colorectal cancer patients with operable liver metastases

Project summary

Cancer can recur after the operation of patients with metastatic colon cancer. Unfortunately, the treating physician cannot predict in advance in which patients this is likely to happen. Predicting the treatment outcome contributes to selecting the most suitable treatment for a patient.
This study will show whether a blood test immediately after surgery can predict whether patients with colon cancer with liver metastases have a high risk of recurrence. This can prevent unnecessary chemotherapy or an unnecessary risk of the cancer returning.

Impact

By being able to predict which patients will have recurring colon cancer, it is possible to select the most suitable treatment for a patient.
