Diagnosis, prevalence and associated factors of osteoarthritis in adults with intellectual disabilities
Project summary
Osteoarthritis of the hip and knee is a condition that is common in later life. This leads to functional decline and a reduction in quality of life. Risk factors for osteoarthritis, such as obesity and reduced physical activity, often occur in people with intellectual disability (VB). However, diagnosis of osteoarthritis is difficult in people with VB and data on prevalence is lacking.
Impact
The aim of this project is to improve the diagnosis of osteoarthritis of the hip and knee in people with VB and to investigate prevalence. This can prevent under-diagnosis and improve treatment.
