Earlier detection and better treatment of problems with small blood vessels in the heart

Project summary

Women have more problems with capillaries in and around the heart than men. However, it is still unknown what is wrong with those capillaries and, once solved, what would be a good treatment.
Dr Kavousi is investigating methods that would sooner detect this capillary problem in women, its cause and how to treat it.

Impact

Much research on treatment of cardiac diseases has been on men. Women however, have different cardiac problems with, most likely, different origins that need to be treated differently. This research will contribute to better diagnosis and treatment of women-specific cardiac problems.
