How do bird flu viruses spontaneously evolve into more dangerous variants?

Project summary

To understand why bird flu viruses have repeatedly mutated into more virulent forms, researchers will establish a novel in vitro system focusing on the viral components responsible for introducing mutations. In combination with a high-sensitivity sequencing method, the system will shed light how more dangerous bird flu viruses can emerge.
