(kleine KINT) Kidney transplantation in the very young, a unique immunological opportunity

Project summary

After a kidney transplant, suppression of the immune system is needed to ensure that the recipient’s body accepts the donor kidney. For young transplant patients this also means that they have to use anti-immune drugs for life. Because of the disadvantages of the drugs, such as a higher risk of developing infections and cancer, it is desirable to set the dose of anti-suppressive drugs no higher than necessary. Very young children may currently be prescribed too high a dose, which may cause them to experience unnecessary side effects.
This project is a feasibility study for an intervention study to reduce the dose of immune suppressant drugs after transplantation in young children to reduce side effects.
