Sex differences in traumatic brain injury and the underlying role of gender-related factors and treatment differences

Project summary

Traumatic brain injury (TH) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. People who do survive traumatic brain injury can continue to suffer from cognitive, physical and psychological complaints that have a major impact on their quality of life. Little is known about sex differences in the consequences of traumatic brain injury. However, this knowledge is crucial for optimizing healthcare.
CENTER-TBI is a large-scale European study in 68 hospitals from 20 countries, including 5,000 patients with traumatic brain injury. Data from this study will be used to increase our knowledge about differences between men and women in the consequences of traumatic brain injury.

Impact

This research can give direct leads for improvements in the care of patients with traumatic brain injury.
